Mission Statement

Special Collections Mission Statement

Milne Library is responsible for keeping and maintaining several special collections which are unique to the Library and the College and which are housed in the Alden Room. These collections enhance and support the educational mission of the Library and College. In addition, the archival collections document the history of the College.

The Special Collections Committee is composed of library staff members and is charged with the acquisition, disposition and preservation aspects of the collections. All members are involved in providing instruction and reference service for the users of these collections. The Committee prepares and recommends to the Library Director policies related to the collections. Meetings are called by the committee chair as needed and minutes are recorded with a copy to the Library Director.

Access

The archives and special collections are housed in the Alden Room on the third floor of Milne Library.  Open hours for the Fall 2017 semester, when classes are in session, are:

Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Access to book collections is through the online catalog.  Limiting the collection to Special Collections in Advanced Search in the Classic Catalog will narrow the results.  The single code SCC above the call number designates Alden Room materials. Call numbers with NYS and/or CASE indicate New York State collection volumes which are also housed in Special Collections.
